Behind the Plate

The boys and girls of the Summer are back. Well, sort of. As the calender turns to April, intramural softball is in full swing. So let's take a look at the front runners so far this year:

Funntasia (5-0)- Last year, this squad made it all the way to the Men's Championship Series. This year they"re back and better than ever. Led by GM/Coach/President/Player Rick Kichler, the intramurals version of the New York Yankees are in first place and will be solid threat in this year's postseason.

Orange Cannons (5-1)- This has to be the surprise of the year so far. After running the gauntlet and rattling off five straight victories, the men of Orange have rocketed to the top and put everyone on notice. However, a loss to Funntasia Sunday proves that they're not ready for the big time.

Profound Spheres (3-0)- They have been tearing it up, in their Tuesday Night League. However, we wonder how good is that league. Maybe MLB National League, or maybe Single A Selma. One thing is for certain, they are the cream of crop of the "mighty" Tuesday Night.

Tropics (3-0)- This CoRec is as loaded as one can get. My bet is that they could probably conquer the "mighty" Tuesday Night men's league. Led by, the usual suspects in Rick, Andy, and Aaron, they are join by more studs. They have the best girls in the program, and should be on a collision course for the championship. Which would give them back-to-back titles!

Cool Kids (2-0)- So far they are the class of the women's league. But what will happen when they matchup with the Women's Powerhouse, Destroyhers?

Teams to Watch:

Pike (3-0)- They lead the Frat league by a game.

Staff Infection (3-0)- They lead the best CoRec league by a game after three weeks.

Knight Riders (2-1)- A team with a lot of athletes, literally. Most of their team plays for some sort of South Alabama Jaguars sport.

Longstrokers (3-1)- This football team is proving that they can play off the gridiron as well.

Destroyhers (1-0)- They are the biggest threat to Cool Kids reign in the Women's division.

Surplus of Seeds
So there is a debate raging around the USA Intramural fields this year? What kind of seeds do you spit? BBQ, Ranch, Original, or do you just pass on all the seeds altogether? Be sure to answer the poll question, as we find out what flavor stands above the rest.

Going, Going, Caught!
As we are about halfway through this year softball season, one thing is evident. The power surges are no more. Home runs have become a luxury. At least those that have to fly over the wall. Inside-the-parks though seem to be on the rise this year.

3 Strikes

1)
Throwing errors are the costly mistakes in games this year.

2) Two out clutch hitting has been big this year.

3) Be weary of the weather. We have experienced three rain outs and numerous nights of frigid weather.

Well, that does for this week.
